 Re: Meet & Greet
Oh, I'm not surprise that you've never heard of the Zelda Exchange. It was mostly an LJ community thing and the dA account was mostly there to show case the pieces from the community. Now, I am planning to open the exchange up to dA members for the next round of gift exchange. As to where I worked, the town's ancient name was Halai and it's located in the modern town of Theologoes. The professor in charge was interested in the Neolithic period of the site, but there are artifacts and architectures from later period as well. If I remember correctly, it was first excavated by Hetty Goldman back in early 20th Century. I also traveled around throughout Greece during my time there. I hit a lot of the big sites, but I also went to some less popular like Sesklo and Dimini (they're famous Neolithic sites but most people don't care about them). Alas, I didn't do the islands. I would have loved to go to Crete and Santorini. I have a soft spot for Minoan stuff. We should compare notes. Oooh, I like your art and comic. My favorite is the HOT comic, but the three pages of black and white comic look great. I wish I can do fight scene as well as you. Yay, fellow archaeology lover! Maybe that field attracts a certain type of people? What was your focus/interest?

 Re: Meet & Greet
Ohmygosh! I go away for what felt like a second and there's so much awesome to reply to! YAY! Get ready for a massive, MASSIVE, post (my favorite kind! ) HAH HAH, & Ren beat me to the swearing! I win (or she wins) how does that work again? Yeah, REN, if I have to hold back then ..wait.. then maybe I should get off my butt and get to those filters one day? I think that's how that works I do know that I cannot be trusted with "dirty" words! @ Cyen~ I wrote AngelP recently and she said she had some unclaimed pre-orders left, so I'm gonna try my best to see if I can get any of those unloaded for her. I would love to see another book. I would really love to be able to draw for another one. I think I even have an idea now --and OMG, wow, that sounds like an amazing experience! Color me green. This also means, if I ever go to Greece, I'm going to ask you for some tips on where to head Hey Zelda86k! It's great to see you! I love to see people returning, I can't even begin to express how happy it makes me feel! I hope more show too and yays! Mandy-for-the-win! *hugs* I think you got ninja posted there, in the flood of intros But, we loves you.
Hey Stormsworder! Welcome! No worries! I kind of suck with intro's and yours was perfectly awesome (I just force myself to think of things and then eventually enough seems to ramble out ) Well, we only know each other because of a forum (or two) that existed a very long time ago... and it was a really friendly forum where new people were most welcome! So, just think of this like a reboot, and we're really happy to have you! OMG, that's great! Yeah, I have to say, I always loved it when people wouldn't help me learn to play a game, and then I'd turn around and beat them at it ~tee-hee It's great to have another writer around, traditional art is cool and all, but we tend to really appreciate the skills you guys have I, personally, am always saddened by how much I just suck at writing We pretty much have a troll tolerance of 0. Think of this place like a laid back house party; if someone starts to ruin the fun for the people we actually want around, well, we'll chuck them out the door I'm sad I never played guild wars, it looked so gorgeous. I have watched almost all of Mass Effect 2 (both good and evil) though So, Nice banner! (I play games, but I also enjoy watching my husband play them~ and that would be the case with Mass Effect and Dragon Age) (also, the Zelda Exchange is fun )
Welcome CavalierAnd, geez, thank you! I, like, don't even know what to say, I'm all flattered and stuff It's okay, I'm secretly a sucker for flattery Yeah, I also have to say that I (and perhaps many of us here) don't place Zelda on the top of our "to-do" lists. (Hah! It is kind of odd that I say that while building a site for it ) But I think we use it more of an excuse to connect. Like; it's our poker night. We all enjoy it, I dunno: For me, it give me a break from things and, I just feel happy when I'm working on getting stuff out there. & I'm happy when I'm around these people. And cheers to you too and to your wonderful intro! Really glad to have you here! (and love your avatar) can't wait to talk to you more!
Ohmygosh! Welcome LJinx! I know your art, I'm so thrilled to see you here! Thank you so much for joining! Wow, that's wild! We really do have a lot of people in archaeology and earth studies. we're going to have to make an earth clan.

 Re: Meet & Greet
I'll just stick with "I win." It's better for my delicate self-esteem. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT. Dude, if we do swear filters, we should have fun with it. None of that **** business. Let's turn swears into random verbs or adjectives. Or OR turn it into like 1800s Britain. "Oh shit!" = "Oh balderdash!" ...sorry. Yay new people!

 Re: Meet & Greet
Haha, you're more up to date about the state of ZAP than I am. Shame on me. I certainly don't mind having those books going to a good home instead of gathering dust and taking up space at AngelP's house. Thanks again for advertising about the book~ We can be team trench wench. EDIT: Forgot to mention that many dig sites look for volunteers so if you don't mind hanging out at one place for a few weeks and getting your hands dirty, it might be an interesting option. I was so tempted to go volunteer in Petra, Jordan, but that was the year I got married so no crazy trips. lol

 Re: Meet & Greet
Ren, you should totally go do that! Like, seriously! I love it Man, you know, if I hadn't killed my arms and sworn I would never use them for anything but art, ever again, I would totally look into doing that. I'm weird, ever since I was a kid, I've loved to dig in the dirt. Putting in a pond was epic for me. I've never enjoyed sports or "working-out" as much as that. I actually bent a pick-axe and had to return it to home depot (and we wonder why my arms are damaged, lol) I live on a volcano butte, btw. Very "rocky." Of course, I know you probably don't mean hacking away at archeological sites But, I just got excited at thinking about attacking the ground again that's all. So yeah, I think that would be killer. I'd actually really enjoy that. I also love(d) dinosaurs... ruins... and finding arrowheads in my grandfathers garden

 Re: Meet & Greet
Ah, that might be why I never heard of it... I'm not too active on many dA communities due to the college web filter issue, and I never really hung around LJ. Or even looked at it much at all, I think? *muses* Hm, I checked back on my Greece travel journal and I don't think we actually went to any of the sites you worked at. We went to a few of the big popular ones but also hit a lot of smaller ones. I forget how many uncontrolled sites we visited, but Orchomenos and Gla were two sites that stood out in my mind. Mostly because we hi Orchomenos the first day and that was my first time EVER climbing such rough terrain up what felt like a mountain to that fortress. I just about died, seriously. >> and Gla was pretty awesome to see as well, although it was kinda dark by the time we were heading back and I almost fell down the rocks climbing down... ; Oooh, a dig in Petra? That woulda been awesome to do, but marriage does take priority I just went to Israel last year over fall break (end of Oct beginning of Nov), and Petra was one of the first places we hit after a night in Wadi Musa. Maaan, I was so dead by the time we were done. I climbed up to El Deir and I was barely standing afterwards. Had run out of water in my big bottle, too >< So when we had to climb down and go alllll the way back across Petra to parking nonstop to cross into Israel? ;-; I was getting dehydrated or something and had fluid in my hands and could barely walk. >>;; Officially decided I'm never doing that Israel trip again. ; Oh, so much I could tell about that trip, and I still have pictures to put up from there on dA... @Mel Heheh, that's the same thing I do. I struggle to think of anything that might be important for others to know and usually have one looooong ramble. ^^; ^^; I dunno, I find more people tend to pay attention to the artists than the writer, which makes me kinda meh when it comes to writing. >> That's one of the biggest hurdles I'm having to overcome with working on my fics, that nagging doubt that it's kinda pointless to write and no one's going to read it. X-x;; yay, no trolls! That's what just about ruined Hyrule.net for me. There were a few obnoxious ones to have to deal with. ><;; And yeah, Guild Wars is quite the gorgeous game, and it's a refreshing play style from other MMOs that focus on grinding forever. I'm beyond amped for Guild Wars 2 though. Been waiting years for that game. >> Okay, well, a few years. ; If ya ever wanted, I could try to Livestream some of the Guild Wars storyline missions ; That way you get the gist of the important story if you were ever curious.

 Re: Meet & Greet
@Melora: Digging was definitely a lot of fun, and I also enjoy "documenting" (drawing scarps, architectural features, and artifacts, etc.). Writing reports, not so fun, but, eh, that's part of the job. At least on my site, a lot of the hard labor was done by the local workers while the rest of us did the more detailed work, but we did have to spend a good chunk of the first week weeding the place and we still have to dig and get dirty. @Stormsworder: Oh, hey, Orchomenos and Gla were actually fairly close to our site. I visited those two sites during my first summer there. Oh yes, that hike up to the fortress! If I remember correctly, the hill up to the fortress was full of brambles when I was there. We were also went to Thermopyle, but that site wasn't so epic looking considering its history. I also remember a site that was next to a Lowenbrau brewery. Unfortunately, I forgot which site it was. I'll have to check my journal. You're so lucky that you got to visit Petra. Is it as impressive looking in person as you expected from all the photos and movies? Petra's still on my list to visit. Some day.... some day.... Anyway, I would love to see your photos from your trips.

 Re: Meet & Greet
Thanks Ren! Currently working as a consultant - tough job sometimes and long hours, so little time for art. Your career sounds much more interesting! Thanks TML, yes I do recall something about my art on TGA - I am sure I remember us having a short discussion about it! Hopefully I will be able to set some time aside for drawing again soon. TGA shut down, did it not? Are you still writing for the fandom? haha, yes I like the HOT comic too, one of my favourites and fight scenes are not easy, did those 3 pages as a challenge and learnt a lot from it... I was actually really into Castles a university! Nothing like rolling around in a bottle dungeon and greek architecture (we had a specialist on the Caryatids) Although all the digs I attended were at Brochs (iron age? stone round houses) but they do have an impressive wall height (try 2 m!) Dig in Petra would be cool, I always fancied going to Egypt to do some work on ancient egyptian artefacts... Thanks Melora good to be here. haha and Earth Clan! FTW! Although trench wenches would probably be more accurate

 Re: Meet & Greet
Hi everyone I'm pretty excited to be here again, I used to be a regular HoH forum-y back in the day...I was that crazy cat person . It's incredible, I think I was 14 or 15 then...and here I am wrapping up my final year in college! Anyway, I absolutely love the Legend of Zelda series. I'm not much of a gamer anymore, but I still love to play Zelda (my favourite games being OoT and LttP) and am looking forward to Skyward Sword. When I was younger I would draw Zelda fan art almost all the time but I haven't really had the chance to make anything decent lately, just some doodles that live in my sketchbook. Now that I'm here I plan to draw a lot more! Oh, and I'm also on deviantart: monkeykaos.deviantart.com
