Post Re: Cavalier's Art Resources
I normally wouldn't bump my own thread, but I think my most recent update will interest many of you. I just uploaded a sizable gallery of Moebius to my picasa gallery, and for those of you who love Miyazaki I think you'll enjoy this particular update very much. https://picasaweb.google.com/105674469342020880592/Moebius#

I think you'll see the strong influence Moebius had on Miyazaki, but don't take my word for it, instead take a look at this fascinating interview with Miyazaki and Moebius over at Nausicaa.net.

Just had to share some of the highlights from my latest Moebius update. I also wanted to throw out the possibility of requests. I have gig after gig of artbook scans on my computer, so if there is anything any of you are interested in please let me know, and I'll load it up on my picasa gallery.

Good Christ I love Moebius- I mean, the sci-fi films he's worked on have just.. epically beautiful designs

Heh, that's a face found in Hellboy if I ever saw one. But I guess the question could better be~ Who hasn't been influenced by his art?! Terada just HAS to be a huge fan as well. (and he was a concept artist for Zelda XD)

You have officially killed my productivity for the day XD
I've been saving pictures like mad and getting hella inspired. God, his colors are so good. Is there some place I can just raid so I can stick all of this up on my walls? I'm going to end up like that guy from Hoboken one day ;p

Thanks for this!
I don't know whom else I'd love to see, ~there are so many!

Glad you liked the update. This guy is such an inspiration to me. I didn't know him by name until a year ago when I realized my Dad had bought me a couple of Moebius posters as a kid, and my brother and I just used to sit there staring at em' like a couple of space cases of years on end. I can see so clearly now how his work as influenced my own its been a blast exploring his seemingly infinite portfolio.

That comment you made about Terada drawing inspiration from Moebius was really interesting, because I can totally see that as well. It shows in both his Zelda and Metroid art which is phenomenal. Makes me wish we could see some of that art direction creep back into the Zelda series.

Like I said, glad you liked the update and if you think of anything you'd like to see leave a post and I'll get on it.

Ha, that's kind of like me and Terada. So, I loved Terada's LttP/LA art as a kid- but I didn't know his name. When I was older- I "found" him and just loved his art- then I realized that it was the same guy who "had done those drawings I loved" *score*

Damn, you don't still have the posters, do you?

I haven't seen his Metroid art! Didn't know!
(Your glasses are so perfect, btw. Been meaning to say that XD)

Damn, where did you encounter it as a kid? Nintendo Power? I would have went crazy if I had seen that stuff as a kid. The first time I saw his art was on the web when I was a teenager, and then I remember a huge upload of those images on Zelda Legends and I couldn't believe it. The first image I opened was the windfish with the gulls flying by and I was completely blown away.

By the way I it turns out Terada didn't do the Metroid art I was thinking of. It was someone else, but the style seemed similar in some ways. Anyway here's an image, maybe you'll see some of the similarities.

As for those Moebius posters....alas they were lost. I don't know what happened to them. I'm thinking of reprinting them at Staples or something along those lines because I have crazy hi-res scans of the same images. I sure as hell won't be buying them though, because the posters are going for a $100+ where ever I've actually succeeded in finding them.

Thanks for the comment on my glasses but I can't take credit. Ren surprised me with an avatar update much to my delight.

Post Re: Cavalier's Art Resources
Mwahahaha, yeah, I was the first one to put those on the net. (Hey, we all have to have at least one thing in life to brag about XD I'll take the excuse.) It's literally why I started my original site in 2002. Then, a few years after I took it down Davogones, from Zelda Legends, added me as staff so I could more easily add art to their gallery :3 (Check out who added that image- Mwahaha, oh yeah. Though, to be fair, a German girl named Daniela sent that set of images to me. That's from the German LA guide {and there was a LttP one} that I didn't know about until her.) More recently FenrisFang found the German guides for me so I was able to make better scans. And, while I work on our new site, I've been doing a little bit to help Mases, from Zelda Dungeon, (and Evelyn, from Zelda Europe,) amass their official art gallery of 600dpi wonders. (and in turn they're helping me with the stuff I don't have.) Mases staff has quietly been adding a s-ton of art. He might have the newer high-res copies of those uploaded by now. I haven't checked in a while but I know that there's new art to the net over there now.

The art I knew of- exactly! Nintendo Power: I bought the LttP Nintendo Power players guide at Babbages, with my allowance money, (and then my friend stole it, ARGH, so I had to rebuy it on Ebay -when I was in college) but it was one of my most cherished possessions. When I think about it, it was "kinda" like the first art book I ever bought. And, if you haven't read it, it also has awesome "stories" for all the items and areas. Man, I miss shit like that. It was really inspiring.

Ah, that Metroid art is really really cool~ Regardless of who did it! (thanks!) Yeah, I think some of the LA art was a Terada copycat. I don't know but... It's close to his style so... it's either someone trying to replicate it, or he was just not into it and got sloppy. X)

Ha! Ren is awesome

@ Saphine- Glad you are liking the updates. If you have any requests let me know. It doesn't have to be specific.

@ Melora- I totally forgot your stint on Zelda Legends. Like I said those Terada updates at Zelda Legends were really exciting. To me it was like a lost treasure of Zelda's past being brought to light. Thats exciting to here about Zelda Dungeon with new artwork, I'm gonna pop over and check it out.

As for that LttP guide, I had no idea about that background information for the areas and items. I might have to poke around ebay and see if I can find a copy myself. I also found it interesting those comments you made about the "Terada" artwork for LA. Some of it is top notch, but a lot of it doesn't come close to the LoZ and AoL work. That is some of the best video game art I've ever come across. It's a shame that none of it was included in that Zelda artbook that came out a few years. I was pretty disappointed in that publication. I was hoping for some rare art from the original games, or some concept sketches at the least. I picked up the Mega Man artbook put out by Udon Studios and that book is CRAMMED with every imaginable piece of art. Background line drawings, character models (hand drawn), manual art, comments from each and every artist really good stuff. I'll upload it at some point and share it with you guys.

Anyway for all interested here two of my favorite images from the Akira artbook I just came across. Check out my gallery for more, and of course Melora you can feel free to add it to the artbook collection if you want.

Post Re: Cavalier's Art Resources
OMG I HATE YOU YOU ARE AWESOME.
Okay, I love Akira. Damn you. How do you know these things?! lol. I'll have to come back to look at this
You know what's weird? So, I bought the first graphic novel for the series when I was in France (I can't read it for crap but it was cheap and a cute gift) and then viz released the big graphic novels here- quite a few of the text bubbles are different! As in: In the English one, text bubbles go to the mouths of the opposite person than in the french one. Always made me wonder which was truer to the original.

I have the scans for that guide- let me see if I have it in an un-uploaded pub-reader that I can upload. (EDIT: I don't even have it edited down to the right size yet *fail*) That was in my plans anyway. It's... really fun. Maybe more so for making an impression on a younger mind- BUT, I don't know, maybe it will still hold some charm. But, yeah, you can probably find it on ebay, sometimes even on Amazon. :D

Yeah, I was disappointed with that Zelda Collection too- though glad for it because it did have some stuff that was missing. Just wasn't... great. And it lacked so much... And the paper quality SUCKED. Made for crappy scans. I haven't seen that MegaMan one you described but I know what you mean. Those are always my favorite kind of art books. They're dreams to find. I wish more publishers would get the idea.
