Make the site better: Fav characters to read comics about?
So, I'm sorting the doujinshi by characters, (I'm doing that right now, lol) because I know sometimes people want to read something with Sheik, or something with Midna, etc. (I'm also sorting by content and game and races as well, but anyway) Thanks to Moonlight Nostalgia help, (she's been tagging all the doujinshi,) this is already going to be way easier for me to accomplish BUT-
...there are so many damn characters. I'm all "Forget it! I'm not going to list every single one!" Sooooo~! I figured I could just ask- if you guys were going to get a hankering to read doujinshi- which characters would you, actually, actively seek out? BECAUSE YOU LOVE THEM. (or at least just really like reading about them.) I'm looking for favorites.
Malon, Marin, Midna, Saria, Dark Link, Ganon, Sheik, Ruto, Nabooru, Medli, Saria, and?

Actually, my search through doujinshi is based on primarily on genre. I avoid most gag humor type doujinshi (they're often just disturbing =\) and seek more serious graphic novel types. It's helpful if a particular pairing is specified, and also the rating (and the reason for the rating). I'm also attracted to or turned off by art style, but that hardly requires tagging. Tagging characters does sound useful, but maybe a brief synopsis would suffice if they're categorized by genre?

I agree with Ingie's suggestion about tagging genre. When I look for something to read, I usually look for the genre that fits my mood. Being that we're talking about characters we all know and love, though, I think it's a good idea to tag characters too, but I'd just stick to the most well known characters if I were you.
For example... if I were you, I'd give Nabooru her own tag, but not Anju. You could probably put the lesser known characters under a general tag of, say, "Miscellaneous Characters" or something.

Cool, yeah, I feel the same way. I just don't want to miss any of the major favs. I'm so unfamiliar with the newer games that I thought it was worth asking here. Plus, when I'm working on the site, my brain kind of turns into a pile of one-task-mush and I often end up skipping over very obvious things. So you guys know; I am doing a few romance type tags, a "serious storyline" tag (because I feel the same way) -I'm not bothering with comedic tags: because that's pretty much all of them- I'm doing a romance x romance tags, a mature (PG-13) tag, and Adult (18+) tag: though the hardcore stuff wont be accessible from THIS site. I'm thinking LJ because they have that mature content filter. -I don't want pervy comments anyway, only snark, and I can more easily moderate for that on LJ anyway. And there might be others that I'm forgetting at the moment. Ingie- they'll also be sortable by artist too- so that should help with art style (I'm the same way, again)

I'm thinking about characters I like to read about. I didn't know that some doujinshi focused on side characters, but I guess anything can happen in doujinshi. I've seen tons of Saria though. She's going to have a huge tag. When I read doujinshi, I go off the art style. (that's how I am with manga anyway) That would be imposable to tag since every one has their own taste in art style and not many people will be looking at how detailed they drew the hair and eyes. However, you could also arrange them by how much you enjoyed the series. Five star rating and whatnot. Some times the art can be pretty but the story will be hard to follow or nonexistent. I dont want to give you any more work though. You already have so much that you're working on. Good heavens woman! (edit) I just thought I would actually seek out doujin of anju and kafei since I love that couple even thought there only might be a handful of people who would want that. I would also look up ones for ganon and vatti. Villains are just so fun to read about. You could just have a villain tag. oh, and this might derail the topic a bit but every time I look at the "not looking for translation" section and I come across the one that has the chubby 80's link and dark link on it that says "Do not buy this" under it, I have to laugh. I can only imagine how terrible it is, especially since it's the only one that you urged us to stay away from. You could have a crappy tag just for the lulz.

I'm always looking for a good story about Sheik and Dark Link.
However on the topic of simple organization I think knowing whether the comic is "gag doujin" or not is always nice.

Re: Make the site better: Fav characters to read comics abou
As far as I can tell, and I know it's not always true, people usually want to look for certain pairings rather than a single character. Because I'm sure there are a lot of people that couldn't care less if Midna is in the story if she and Link aren't the whole time. So maybe you could make tags for pairings? And they could also serve as a warning to anyone that doesn't like that sort of thing.

lol, Karnella, that cracked me up ~...though, while I do not want to ruin the lulz when you see that cover again (and, oh gods, how I wish that was all that it were)... oh man- I can't keep quite! I have to warn! The horror... the utter horror! " Crappy" and " pure-shock-and-horror-to-the-extent-to-which-I-couldn't-even-just-throw-it-in-the-trash,-so-I-burned-it-out-of-existence" are the two different levels we're talking about here. As to what I mean by that, I will not speakith thy name, oh horror-upon-horrors. I had no idea about the content until it arrived. So, yes, to all of you out there: NEVER EVER buy this: Since it was published~ there are new laws in Japan. Normally, I disagree with censorship laws, this kind of doujinshi is one reason I am very glad for them... Oh.. the Japanese... I never would have bought it if I had known- and the least I can do is warn others that it is not just Yaoi, like the cover would imply... ... ... *runs off weeping from the PTSD* So T_T uh, YEAH! Midna, Link, Zelda- I'm not going to bother tagging them. They're pretty much in every one you'd expect them to be in based on the cover. Paring tags are perfect! This thread was REALLY helpful for many reason, some unexpected! Thank you everyone! ... Man... now I want doujinshi that is JUST Sheik and Dark Link. Of several genres. In all honesty, I'm shocked that there aren't more featuring either of those characters. They're so just so indulgent, it seems like a giant missed opportunity.

oh my freakin gosh melora. I'm so sorry I brought it up. I think it needs a stronger warning under it than just "don't buy this then." I would offer you brain bleach, but I'm afraid that the amount you would need to clear the memory of that thing would be lethal. Thanks for the warning. Because of your sacrifice, you have saved many a soul from beholding this abomination. melora our savior!
