Princess Zelda made her first appearance in The Legend of Zelda Series back in 1987- with the first Zelda game giving credit to her in its title. Since then she's gone through a lot of changes: With official liscensing to back it up she's had her part comics, manga, sound dramas, cartoons, even her own game. So yup, just about any thing you can think of and each time she's been portrayed with various looks and characteristics. Through all this a few things have remained constant: She's always been the Princess of Hyrule and she's always been associated with the Triforce of Wisdom.

Tidbit: The name of the princess was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald. From Miyamoto, creator of the Legend of Zelda series: "Zelda was the name of the wife of the famous novelist Francis Scott Fitzgerald. She was a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts, and I liked the sound of her name. So I took the liberty of using her name for the very first Zelda title."
